Neck Pain

Stiffness, tightness, or pain in the neck, often tied to posture, an old injury, or a misalignment that's been quietly building for a while.

What's usually behind it

  • Forward head posture from hours on a phone or laptop
  • An old whiplash or other neck injury that never fully corrected
  • Sleeping in a position that strains the neck
  • Misalignment in the cervical spine
  • Stress carried as tension across the shoulders and neck

Why it doesn't always stay in your neck

The neck is built to carry your head's weight directly over your shoulders. When posture shifts your head forward, even by an inch, the muscles and joints supporting it have to work harder to hold it up, and that extra load tends to spread into your shoulders and upper back over time.

It's also common for neck problems to show up as headaches rather than neck pain alone, since the nerves at the top of the neck share a pathway with the nerves that carry pain signals from the head. See our Headaches page for more on that connection.

How we evaluate neck pain here

Digital X-rays and postural analysis show us exactly what's misaligned in the cervical spine, rather than us guessing based on where it hurts today. Two people with the same complaint can have very different findings underneath it.

How we treat it

Most plans combine cervical adjustment, manual therapy, and rehab exercises, sometimes with cervical traction if the neck's curve has flattened. Our Neck Pain Relief service page covers the full plan in more depth.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I be worried about neck pain from my phone or desk job?+

It's extremely common, but that doesn't mean it should be ignored. Left alone, forward head posture tends to progress rather than resolve on its own.

Can neck pain cause pain in my arm or hand?+

Yes, a nerve irritated or compressed in the cervical spine can refer pain, numbness, or tingling down into the shoulder, arm, or hand. It's something we specifically check for during your evaluation.

Is it safe to have my neck adjusted?+

We choose the method, manual, drop-table, or instrument, based on your comfort and what the correction actually calls for, and we'll walk you through what to expect before we start.

How long has my neck pain probably been building?+

Often much longer than people expect. Postural and structural neck problems tend to develop over years, even if the pain itself only showed up recently.

Will neck pain go away with just stretching?+

Stretching can ease tension temporarily, but if the underlying issue is a joint restriction or lost cervical curve, it tends to come right back until that's actually addressed.
